Laryngeal joints.
1- Cricothyroid joints.
- Location.
- Function
- The forward movement and downward rotation of the thyroid cartilage effectively lengthen and put tension on the vocal ligaments.
- This tension, caused by the forward and downward movement of the thyroid cartilage, acts as the cricothyroid muscle.
- The relaxation and lengthening of the vocal cords are achieved by the vocalis muscles.
- They are synovial joints surrounded by a capsule and reinforced by associated ligaments.
- the vocal cord and vocal ligament are not the same thing. The vocal cord, also known as the true vocal fold, is a structure in the larynx involved in producing sound. It consists of a vocal ligament covered with mucosa. The vocal ligament is a band of connective tissue within the vocal cord that provides support and structure.
2-Crico-arytenoid joints.
